Exordium

Studying abroad is a dream for some and a necessity for others. Those who need the experience to get the job that they are spending money and years on might just be out of grasp and all that hard work was for nothing, down the drain. Imagine, it's your junior year in college, you switched your major in the beginning of your sophomore year. You were hoping that this summer after the spring semester you wanted to go to Spain for an intersession so that you can become an English teacher in a Spanish-speaking country. You have loved reading and literature unlike many others, you have taken an immense interest in learning a foreign language early on, now it's your dream to teach and you can have everything you love all-in-one. The college you currently go to has very limited trips led by the school, so you look into other websites linked through the college's personal website. You put in your application for the trip, you save up money all semester into the summer. You get an em...

So It's Like That

Studying abroad has been something I always thought about, but wasn't sure if it would be entirely beneficial. It wasn't something I looked for in Cal U, but once being here it popped up again in my mind and I started to dig into the opportunities offered here after making it the topic for my thesis. However, these trips are not something that are really posted around campus or talked about by the teachers. I only just recently saw a flyer in the library regarding the upcoming trip. After digging online there honestly wasn't too much and I think I'm going to have to interview a faculty member.

What Is Fun

There is not too much to do on campus or off campus, so you usually have to drive at least 15 minutes to get something or find something to do. Also being an athlete only leaves me a couple hours to do anything outside of class, homework, practice, lift, and meets almost every weekend. I usually go to Natali almost every night to do homework, but before actually starting my homework I am just talking and relaxing in a booth. Then hopefully getting some homework done, taking a break to get some food and then resume talking and working on more homework; that's the favorite part of most days. It's really the only chance I get to socialize with my friends outside of practice because there isn't much time to talk then or even talk to people in any of my classes before rushing off to the next.     The one other thing that comes to mind that I would say is an enjoyable experience at Cal is the sports that actually have a facility within walking distance or is on t...

Tengo Raisom

Cal U should have more study abroad intersessions directly in association with the school because there are only a few, most are through a website not linked with Cal and are therefore through third-parties. Although the website is linked on Cal U's own website, they directly state there is no affiliation and when applying you are not guaranteed it will be successful.     If Cal U had more opportunities to have these faculty-led trips, it would be more likely to to be advertised and bring in more interest. Not only will people be more informed, but also will feel safer going directly through Cal's program rather than an unknown organization.
